This happened about ten feet in front of me and I almost didn't believe my eyes. Then I looked over to the east and saw a golf course. Hahaha. Trevor was reading and missed it.
Fireworks

Trevor pointed out that the formal announcement that the Minneapolis Police Department put out basically says they don't care about fireworks. I mean, we knew that already from the chaos each 4th of July, but it is funny to see it in writing. I'm sure they put this out because we've already started to hear random fireworks going off. Anyway, this is the part that I think is funny:

911 will take calls about illegal fireworks; however, fireworks complaints are most prevalent on summer nights, when the police are most busy. Please provide the exact address and some kind of a description of the person(s) setting off the fireworks. Because of the volume of calls over the 4th of July holiday, the 911 dispatcher will put out general info to the squads, but will not dispatch a specific car, except in situations where a fire hazard or a direct threat to personal safety is present. This is to assure that the police officers can respond to more serious crimes in progress. When prioritizing 911 calls, calls about fireworks will take a longer response. Please be patient.

The Minneapolis Police Department asks that you enjoy your celebration with only legal fireworks—those that are non-explosive and non-aerial.

Enjoy your celebration with the lame fireworks but if you use the cool ones we won't do anything anyway!

Fireworks Facts

From the Minneapolis Police Department

Certain types of fireworks became legal in Minnesota in April 2002. With warmer weather and an increase of complaints from residents about fireworks, the Minneapolis Police Department wants you to know these facts:

What's legal? Minnesota law now permits the sale, possession and use of some non-explosive and non-aerial fireworks. Examples include sparklers, cones and tubes that emit sparks, and novelty items like snakes and party poppers. (These consumer fireworks may not be used on public property such as roads, alleys, schools, and parks. Purchasers of these fireworks must be at least 18 years old. Sale, possession and use may occur at any time during the year. Fireworks can only be sold from inside a permanent structure. Merchants selling fireworks from any location other than a permanent structure are in a violation of a city ordinance.)

What's still illegal? The law still prohibits explosive and aerial fireworks for public sale, possession and use. Examples of illegal fireworks include firecrackers, bottle rockets, missiles, roman candles, mortars and shells—any fireworks that are explosive and aerial.

Please comply with the fireworks law! Be a considerate neighbor! Shooting off fireworks can be extremely frustrating for neighbors, especially when homes are close to each other, people are trying to sleep, and pets are frightened. Fireworks can also be very dangerous.

911 will take calls about illegal fireworks; however, fireworks complaints are most prevalent on summer nights, when the police are most busy. Please provide the exact address and some kind of a description of theperson(s) setting off the fireworks. Because of the volume of calls over the 4th of July holiday, the 911 dispatcher will put out general info to the squads, but will not dispatch a specific car, except in situations where a fire hazard or a direct threat to personal safety is present. I'm pretty excited to get them and use them! I don't think I've ever mentioned my stamp obsession, but I have one. I haven't been buying many lately, but I have a lot, and I just started buying them one 1/2 years ago. I have normal mounted stamps (on wood blocks), unmounted, and acrylic/clear stamps. I use them in card making and scrapbooking.
Trevor's pool team got 1st place in the pool league they were playing in this past season, so they qualified for the regional pool tournament (the only one in the state) that was this weekend. 34 teams qualified, and Trevor's team got FIRST PLACE! In the state! And not only that, now they qualify to go to the National APA Tournament in Las Vegas! So they are going to Nationals. It is unbelievable. They worked so hard to get to where they are and I am SO PROUD of all of them! Too bad Nationals are in August. Vegas in August? Um...yeah. ;-) They got huge trophies, prize money, and then they get money for travel expenses. :-)

It was a long weekend of pool this weekend. The tournament started Friday evening, and they finished around 11:30 last night! Kyle stayed both Friday and Saturday night so he wouldn't have to drive down to Burnsville and back. I went to some of the matches but I wasn't there for all of them. It was really exciting to be there last night and watch them win though! I was there with some of the other SOs and friends.
Betsy and I are going to the Varsity Theater in Dinkytown tonight to see our friend Elizabeth Hunnicutt open for Brooke Fraser. I'm very much looking forward to it! We'll probably see some of our friends there that we haven't seen in a long time, and get to hear good music. It will be fun to see Elizabeth, because it has been quite a while!

Thankfully the only plan we have for this weekend is attending our nephew Milton's birthday party tomorrow afternoon. I can't believe he is already two!

I came down with a nasty cold Wednesday night. I stayed home yesterday and worked from home and hacked away all day. Stuffy nose, congestion, cough, sore throat, and aches and pains. I had very little energy to do simple things. I had Cash Howard by my side. He was very cuddly yesterday. Thankfully this morning I feel a bit better and I'm back in the office.

I haven't scrapped since last week, except for making some birthday cards.

I added a music playlist to my facebook profile and that's sort of fun.

Just wanted to add a reminder that I sell Tupperware here at my web site: http://my.tupperware.com/ktungseth and if you want an actual catalog in your hands I can mail you one. :-)

Wasn't the Lost finale last night great? I thought it was pretty much perfect. And now we have to wait 8 months for the continuing story!

Last weekend we saw the new Indiana Jones movie which was very entertaining. I am hoping that we can see Prince Caspian soon but I wouldn't want to go now and disturb everyone with my nasty cough.

She challenged us to post a recipe from our area and try her recipe for poutine.

I can't think of anything specifically American or Minnesotan that I could post a recipe for. I know, lame, right? All I could think of was how at San Juan Festival in Paraguay, the food they had out for America was brownies. Yes, brownies.

I don't know if this is completely midwestern, but I am guessing so, as this past weekend my great aunt and mother discussed how you have to pay a pretty penny for rhubarb in other parts of the county, so I decided on a recipe my mother sent me for rhubarb crisp. It's my grandma's recipe. I have never made it myself, but grew up eating it at my grandma's and my mom and brother Andy also made it at home. I am looking forward to trying it out myself once I get some rhubarb from a friend's yard nearby.

RHUBARB CRUNCH #1

1 cup brown sugar
3/4 c quick oatmeal
1 cup flour
1/2 c melted butter
1 t cinnamon

Use half of mixture for crust in a buttered 9" square pan.

Put 4 cups diced rhubarb into crust.

Cook until bubbly and clear:
1 cup white sugar
2 T cornstarch
1 cup water
1 t vanilla
Pour over rhubarb. Sprinkle rest of crust over all. Bake 350 for one hour.

and another:

RHUBARB CRUNCH #2
Put 4 cups finely sliced rhubarb into 9 X 9 pan. Sprinkle with 1 cup white sugar and 4 T flour.
Mix: 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup flour, 1/4 cup butter and 1/4 cup oatmeal. Pour over rhubarb and bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

Anyway, Trev and I tried out Tiana's Poutine recipe. I have been to Canada, but I've never had poutine. I'd never even heard of it, but I had to try it. So when we were in Wisconsin last weekend we bought some cheese curds (yellow because we couldn't find white). Then tonight we made poutine.

Here are the photos:

It was good, and I don't even want to think about how many calories were in that thing.
