For those of you that have a lot of DVDs, how do you store them? We have run out of room in what we have, and I'm thinking something that has doors or something would look better.

For those of you who recycle, where do you keep your recycling? What do you use to sort it? Right now we have paper bags on the kitchen floor and i hate how messy it looks. I'd like something that keeps it all together that I can move out of the way when I need to reach the cupboards near where we are keeping the recycling. We don't have any closets in our kitchen and we don't have an attached garage. Any ideas?

We used to just store our movies on shelves, but it gets to be an eye sore- not to mention each movie gathers dust, and it takes forever to wipe them down...(and personally, I'd like to pare down a lot of our movie collection to essentials and absolute favorites, but that's another story!) So we finally got about 26 of the Kassett DVD storage boxes from IKEA (they're kind of sturdier & come in several colors, and have the metal corners & stuff, so they look a little more high end) I used a label-machine to print A - Z labels for each box, so I can quickly find the movie I'm looking for (and we have a ton- each box holds 15 movies, so you do the math!) We put the boxes on the same shelf (it's deep enough to house the boxes), so now it's kind of a nice tidy look.

For recycling, we're fortunate that we don't have to sort - our recycling is picked up in one 96 gallon commingled cart on wheels, so we just have a smaller bin in the house for daily recycling storage, and then we dump it into the big one outside. We do have to sort our glass out into a separate container, but our other stuff just goes in the same bin. Could you get some of those stacking "angled opening" stackable bins at IKEA that are meant for sorting recyclables? They're kind of an opaque plastic-- let me see if I can find them... ah yes, here:

i have these too, and in general they work great. only problem is that while they are alphabetized and labeled, we still often forget what we have.

I keep my recycling on the back stoop. There's room for two bins out there and the door still opens, etc.

I plan on eventually making a little notebook or binder, next to our movie collection, and putting a list of all our movies in Alphabetical order, and possibly also having separate pages for genres, so if you're in a romantic comedy -movie mood, you can easily find what movies you have already.

i can offer no assistance with your questions, but i do love your dvd shelf. ours is about the same height as yours, but has only 1 column. and ours is full now.

and i'm going to start recycling too. it takes up a lot of room to do it though.

We keep our DVDs under the TV - our TV stand has some doors. But we don't have as many DVDs as you, so we can cram them in there.
The recycling we keep in the garage - we [Adam]just takes whatever we have out on his way to work in the morning, and we keep it in bags out there.
